Small World play

Small world play is a great learning activity for your child. It helps them to understand the world around them on a smaller scale whilst also helping develop their language, social skills and letting their imagination run wild! You can help your child by setting up some small world play sets that you can rotate on a daily basis.

Here are some great ideas to get you started:

Prehistoric small world

Grab some play sand, stones, a tray and toy dinosaurs ready for your child to create a mini prehistoric world!

Underwater small world

Fill up a sink or bowl with warm water, add a few drops of blue food colouring, then drop some shells and plastic sea creature toys onto the bottom.

To spark their imagination further why not sprinkle some glitter into the water too! We like earth-friendly biodegradable glitter.

Farm small world

This is a great way to use up all that play-doh that’s been mixed into a murky brown! Round up as many farm animals as you can find, lolly pop sticks and the brown playdoh and voila, you have all your child needs to create a small world farm! Use those lolly pop sticks to stick into the playdoh ‘mud’ to fence in those animals.

No time to prep these small worlds? No worries! We have a set of three Story Bag toys which lend themselves to this perfectly and they pack away super quick too as each one comes in its own bag! Check them out here: Safari Park Story Bag, Fairy Tale Story Bag, and London Story Bag.
